01/08/2026 Kingfisher The Luke of the draw

This week saw the return of Team Lewtas who had been here for the last week of the season in 2026 (https://carpfrance.com/11-10-25-kingfisher-team-lewtas/), along with their lovely ladies. This year the ladies stayed at home and Luke and Callum brought their younger brother, Jayden with them. Last year there were only 5 carp on the bank so they were hoping for a few more, especially with 3 of them fishing and the girls not being there to distract them.

Having just returned from a long weekend in Holland fishing the guys flew to us, arriving on the Friday flight from Manchester and staying in the airport hotel for the night before Nigel picked them up after he had dropped off some other guests. A quick supermarket shop to stock up on food for the week and a few drinks and they were at the lake and setting up by mid afternoon. Jayden had won the draw for who picked the first swim and was quickly unpacked in swim 2 and getting his rods set up. Luke was to go second. He ummed and ahed for ages before settling on swim 3, maybe it was the hut that swayed it for him, but that was his final decision so Callum got his bivvy set up in the house swim nearest the chalet. Callum was not too disappointed as whilst Nigel had been chatting to Luke in swim 3 he had seen a big carp roll in the deepest part of the lake.

They had all ordered a bait package each, Luke and Jayden picking the spicy fish flavour boilies and Callum the maple syrup flavour. Nigel jokingly said that if he caught on those he could sell them at a huge profit to his brothers if they weren’t catching

Callum was first off the mark on Sunday with a 36lb common, a new PB for him, and a 25lb nice scaley mirror and 2 small kittens to 16lb. Jayden had lost a massive something overnight as well as one yesterday, There was nothing to report for Luke in swim 3

There was a bit of rain on Monday morning and when we went round to see them Callum had had 4 more carp, including a 47lb 8oz mirror, beating his PB again, and a 36lb 8oz mirror and another couple of 20lbers. There was nothing for the other two.

So after just 48 hours Callum was on 6 carp and 2 catfish and the others had caught nothing. It seemed that the fish were all hanging about in the deeper water and Luke was beginning to regret his decision to go in swim 3.

Finally on Tuesday Jayden told us that he had landed a 19lb common on Monday night, but Luke had lost 3, at least 2 of which he said were carp and Callum had had another 47llber.

It was decided that maybe it was the maple syrup boilies that the fish were interested in rather than the deeper water and they asked for another 5kg of maple syrup boilies for Luke and Jayden as obviously Callum did not want to be giving his away! Callum had another 20lb+ after Jo had brought him back from the bank (to get some money out).

In the afternoon on Tuesday they decided to have a little break away from the lake and called round to play a bit of pool and darts in the mancave. Luke had cheered up a bit as he was finally off the mark with a 30lb mirror which he had caught off of some bread whilst stalking in the shallows and a catfish weighing 12lb . So now at least they had all landed a fish.

Wednesday saw Callum with another 47lber, Luke had lost a big cat and caught a little one and Jayden in swim 2 had had nothing.

They called round for some more supplies in the afternoon, as we had been to the supermarket for them. They told us that they had seen a western whip snake and 3 kingfishers round the lake that morning.

Callum managed to get a good night sleep on Wednesday as he had no further bites but Jayden and Luke were busy, with Jayden losing 2 big ones and Luke having another small catfish. They spent a few hours over on Lac Lucie with a rod each and over there Jayden caught a 25lb mirror and Callum had a 24lb mirror but still no luck for Luke.

Friday came round too quickly and as Luke was off to Greece at the weekend with Annalise they were getting the Manchester flight home again that afternoon. They left it until the very last minute to pull their last rods in but there were to be no more fish on the bank. They told us that in total Callum had had 20 bites and 16 landed, Jayden had landed 3 and Luke 6 but only 1 carp and the rest small catfish. We think he will be glad when we have removed these small ones this winter.

The final summary is zero babies, 2 at 10lb+, 9 at 20lb+, 4 at 30lb+, 3 at 40lb+ and 7 small catfish to 16lb. Good luck to Luke with his new arrival due later this year and hopefully you will all be back next year. Until then bonne journée et à bientôt…
