02/08/25 Kingfisher Life and souls of the party Part 2

After a week on Lac Lucie with 31 carp out in total the 3 anglers moved, along with their lovely assistants, to Kingfisher, amidst the chaos that is Saturday mornings here at Carp France Fishing. With temperatures expected to soar to the mid 30s by the end of the week they were hoping that they would have as much luck during the second week of their holiday.. And Jamie was hoping to reel in his first ever catfish.

By lunchtime they were all set up again with Jamie on the house swim in the sunshine, Ronnie on swim 2 and Martin down on swim 3. The ladies and Charlie soon got themselves unpacked again in the chalet and said it felt like a completely different holiday! Kingfisher lake is more tree lined and is often described as looking like an old English estate lake. The chalet is also situated closer to the lake with the view out of the main bedroom window across the lake by the first swim. Everyone felt like they were much closer to the action…when it happened.

All three of the anglers this week were using our spicy fish boilies, parti-blend, pellets and a selection of our house hook-baits.

Jamie was first off the mark on Sunday morning with two fish out in fairly quick succession at first light. A 24lb 6oz mirror and a 26lb common.

This was followed at around 3pm when two of Ronnie’s rods went off at exactly the same time which sent everyone into a bit of a frenzy. Both fish were landed successfully and Jamie claimed one as his own

30lb 4oz and 36lb 8oz

Jamie caught his fourth fish of the day around tea time and was happy he had had another 40lber

40lb 6oz

Martin was last to catch for this week but fishing in the shallower waters when it is hot never brings great rewards but at least he was off the mark with a 16lb 4oz common overnight on Sunday

16lb 4oz

Monday was a very quiet day in the lake with only a 19lb cat for Jamie – his first ever catfish though so worth a photo

19lb

Charlie decided he had had enough of the chalet (or the women?) on Monday night and slept out on a spare bed chair using his dad’s mosquito netting but still missed his dad catching a 25lb common

25lb

There were no fish on the bank at all on Tuesday as the temperatures began to rise into the 30s again and the ladies spent a few hours in the man cave playing darts although they did get in trouble for not telling the others where they had gone!

The family decided that they would have another day out on Wednesday but not to the market this week. Instead they went off down to the public lake, about 10 minutes away from us, had a pizza at le 16 Beach and a splash about.

They returned to the lake refreshed and revigorated and we had a few drinks with them on Wednesday evening when they got back, meaning that Martin didn’t get his rods out that night.

Jamie started the day well on Thursday and got another new PB 45lb 12oz mirror at about 9am. His fortnight really was going to plan. The mark you can see on the side of this mirror is a common issue with this strain of carp and is caused by the swim bladder popping a rib out. It only becomes sore if it rubs against something and our anglers always treat any sores with a recommended fish care product.

45lb 12oz – new PB

With Ronnie not having caught anything since his double take he was starting to get a bit twitchy so asked Nigel for some advice when we were there one morning. He still had to wait until Thursday afternoon before he had anything more though and finally caught another mirror weighing 22lb 6oz

22lb 6oz

Jamie then finished the day off by beating his PB for the 3rd time in 2 weeks with this 46lb 8oz mirror

46lb 8oz – new PB

Ronnie finished the week off with a 15lb long common first thing Friday morning and then we were there to see him play the last fish of the session which really put up a great fight and took ages for Martin to get it in the net for him but a lovely end to the week with a 32lb 6oz common.

32lb 6oz

The total caught in Kingfisher was 13 fish including zero babies, 3 at 10lb+, 4 at 20lb+, 3 at 30lb+, 3 at 40lb+ and 2 catfish up to 19lb and with 3 new PBs for Jamie over the fortnight he won the annual trophy for the biggest fish! But the three of them also took one of our new mugs home to remind them of us!

Kingfisher has proved more challenging for the three of them compared to Lac Lucie, probably due to the high temperatures and we hope they will all return to give this another go one day. Until then bonne journée et à bientôt…..
