09/05/2026 Lac Lucie Duck

This week saw some new anglers on Lac Lucie who had travelled down from the Midlands area on Friday, across to Calais and then the road down to here. They had hired a van to bring all of their tackle out and took it down on the bank to unload it. We do not mind people doing this but always suggest that it is put back up nearer the chalet in case it rains as the slope can be a bit slippy….

Liam and Nathan do a bit of carp fishing in the UK but have never been to France before so their PBs were relatively low and the pair were determined to beat them. Liam had messaged me a few times about the possibility of fishing somewhere on the Friday night but they ended up sleeping in their van and arriving with us mid afternoon on the Saturday. Planning on spending every second by the lake that they could they set up their bivvies and got the rods in the water as quickly as they could.

The weather for the week was a real mixed bag. On Sunday there was a real mix of temperatures up to 19°C and then plummeting in the afternoon down to 12°C and a heavy rain shower lasting an hour or so. Monday was a bit cooler with some rain in the afternoon and Tuesday and Wednesday were dry. The nights were chilly though and we didn’t envy the guys for sleeping out in their bivvies all night. But their persistence paid off and they were rewarded with some nice looking fish.

On Monday we had to pop to the supermarket to restock the beer for the Kingfisher lads and whilst we were out the pair told us that two fighter jets had gone over. They said that they were so low and so noisy they thought that we were being attacked so threw themselves on the ground! We do get jets flying over regularly and daily small air force training planes overhead from the Cognac airfield so we were not totally surprised but can imagine that the sudden noise disturbing the peace and quiet down by the lake must have come as a bit of a shock.

This is a picture of a baby mirror caught by Nathan on Wednesday afternoon transferred to the stock pond, weighing around 8lb. This will be a stunner in the future.

8lb

Here are some of the fish that were caught by the lads over the five days they were with us, with weights where we know them.

25lb 14oz
33lb 2oz
28lb 2oz
31lb

The lads were heading back off home on Thursday and were planning on leaving at around 11am. We said our goodbyes and headed around to see Nigel’s mates on Kingfisher and assumed they had left. We then got a message about an hour later to say they were stuck at the bottom of the slope and couldn’t get a grip so we went and fetched Nigel’s Range Rover to see if that could pull it up. It didn’t help that the tow loop was missing from the front of the van! Using the longest rope we could find and Nigel staying at the top where the grass was drier we eventually pulled them up and they got on their way.

We believe, from the photos that we have been sent, that they landed 9 carp each and both had carp over 30lb so both had new PBs. There was 1 baby, 1 at 10lb+, 5 at 20lb+, 2 at 30lb+ and 9 photos that we have no weights for. Thank you for some great fishing and we hope that you enjoyed your stay with us and will make a return visit at some point. Until then bonne journée et à bientôt…..
