We welcomed three Dutch anglers onto Lac Lucie this week and with no one on Kingfisher, Jo had travelled back to Liverpool to meet her new granddaughter, Pippa so Nigel was left in charge with a long list of jobs and to look after Dennis, Nina and Ton (Opa, who is 82 years old).
Arriving at around 4pm laden with gifts from their bakery which supports people with disabilities, Nigel knew that they would have lots in common, and their English was excellent. Their goal for the week was to make some memories, to fish the daylight hours and go out exploring a little.
Ton has had a few medical issues recently and with the ground being quite dry, Nigel said that they could drive the car down to the swim each day to make things easier.
After a visit to the bakery each morning the trio got themselves set up on the main bank and it was not long after the first cast that the first fish was on the bank. At 10.30am on Sunday morning Ton had the first fish a 13.5kg (29lb 12oz) mirror caught on the feeder. Dennis’ photo that he sent through said ‘Superman’ and we are not sure if he named the fish or was referring to Opa who held it well for his photo.

On Monday morning, around 11am, Nina was off the mark, with a small common weighing about 6lb, again caught on the feeder, which Nigel took to our stock pond – destined to be a big fish in the future. They popped out to the shops at lunchtime and then moved to the left side of the lake, into the sunshine as it was feeling a bit chilly in the shade on the main bank and Nina had a small roach.

Nigel spent some time with them each day and enjoyed chatting about bakery life, as Ton had had his own bakery for a number of years before Dennis decided to do what they are currently doing and Ton still manages to assist him with their delicious cakes and biscuits.
On Tuesday they went to Oradour-sur-Glâne for the afternoon to visit the village which has been left as it was after the German’s invaded it in 1944 and killed all of the inhabitants. There were no fish on the bank from Lac Lucie but Nigel did a couple of nights fishing on Kingfisher and had a few carp out. During the daytime he was busy laying a new floor in the Kingfisher chalet.
On Wednesday afternoon, just after lunch at 13.00, Nina landed this lovely 22lb 11oz (20 Dutch pond) mirror on 2 pieces of sweetcorn and another small roach on corn.

It was Wednesday evening before Dennis had his only fish of the trip, at around 21.00 he landed a 30lb 13oz (28 Dutch pond) mirror which had caught on dog biscuits

And apart from another couple of roach caught by Nina that was it for their week but as they wrote in our visitors report they did not come here to be fishing all day and night but to spend time together and make some memories and they had a few blank days but the memories and stories are great.
Final summary of their week is 1 baby, 2 at 20lb+, 1 at 30lb+ and several small roach. Thank you for choosing to come to our lakes and make some great memories and we hope to see you again someday. Until then bonne journée et à bientôt…..
