11/10/25 Kingfisher Team Lewtas

Callum and his brother Luke were due to fish at the same lake as our guests from last week and when they had heard that Team Hornby were coming here instead, Callum contacted us to see if we had their week available too. Luckily we were able to fit them in and along with girlfriends, Annalise and Meg and they all enjoyed a week in the sun on Kingfisher.

Callum, Luke and Annalise arrived on the Friday evening flight from Manchester so Nigel hung around after dropping Team Hornby off and drove them back to the lake. With darkness falling earlier and earlier, Jo had got them a few bits of shopping in so that they could get set up for the night rather than trying to squeeze in a trip to the supermarket instead. Callum started off on swim 4 and Luke on swim 2.

With high pressure forecast, no rain, cold nights and warm sunny days with temperatures as low as 5°C at night and up to nearly 25°C in the day, how the fish would react was anyone’s guess. But at least they would have a dry week and enjoy the last of this year’s summer.

Both of the brothers have been carp fishing for a number of years, Callum has fished in Japan and Holland and they both regularly go fishing in the UK locally or a bit further afield for the weekend.

Friday night was uneventful and the lads had a good night sleep after their journey and a few beers. They woke up to a beautiful sunrise and reset their rods for the day after a quick trip to the supermarket to stock up for a few days.

On Saturday night Luke managed to land two lovely mirrors weighing 21lb and 26lb 8oz

On Sunday Callum decided he was going to move up to swim 1 and whilst he was baiting up on the far bank he spotted a wild boar in the woods and watched it charge off. He struck lucky during the night with a lovely 29lb 10oz mirror and was thinking he had made the right decision by moving.

Monday night Callum had a long common weighing 14lb and at 8am on Tuesday morning Luke also landed a common weighing 17lb. Two very different shaped commons and we reckon that the 17lber will be a big fish in the future.

But that’s when the fishing stopped. Air pressure was up to 1020hPa and the fish were just not wanting to feed. We have been reading and seeing bits from other fisheries locally online and talking to fellow fishery owners it would appear that the fish are just not wanting to eat. The guys did hook into a couple of cats over the week but did not manage to bring them to the bank and on the very last morning they managed to lose another carp right at the net.

In other news the ladies had another fairly successful trip to the supermarket on Tuesday after Meg had flown in on Monday evening and although they did not quite buy enough beer they pretty much got everything else they needed. Jo took them to the market in Piegut Pluviers on Wednesday morning and despite it being October and very few tourists around the market was quite busy and the girls treated themselves to a pretty watch each. They were all also kept entertained with the cat (renamed Smudge) and her four kittens who have been enjoying the sunshine and all getting tamer and tamer.

So only 5 carp on the bank between the two of them but reading reports from other lakes in the area it seems as though they did well to catch them. Their final summary is zero babies, 2 at 10lb+, 3 at 20lb+. We will look forward to seeing these guys again next year on Lac Lucie, until then bonne journée et à bientôt….
