In respect to our first French fishermen, our fishing report is written in two languages this week. Please scroll down to read the English version.
Cette semaine, nous avons eu le plaisir d’accueillir nos premiers invités français, venus du nord-ouest de la France. Cédric et son fils Léo nous ont rejoints, accompagnés du frère de Cédric, Anthony, qui a passé quelques jours avec eux pour se retrouver et pêcher.
Ils sont arrivés samedi après-midi et ont passé la première nuit au chalet avant de tout installer sur la rive principale de l’étang dimanche matin. Léo avait déjà pêché dans la rivière près de chez lui et adorait attraper de gros silures et de nombreux poissons prédateurs, mais il était impatient de prendre des carpes. Et ils n’ont pas tardé à prendre leur première : une carpe miroir de 12,6 kg pour Leo. Sa toute première carpe, et il était ravi.
Nous sommes allés à l’étang dimanche après-midi pour les voir, et Cédric avait pris une carpe de 11 kg. Léo pêchait à la canne à emboîtement pour essayer d’attraper des poissons plus petits, comme des gardons.
Lundi matin, lorsque nous sommes allés les voir, ils nous ont dit avoir pris quatre carpes à 23 h et à 5 h, puis deux en une demi-heure à 10 h. Leurs poids étaient de 12 kg, 5 kg, 9 kg et 15 kg. Le frère de Cédric, Anthony, est arrivé à 18 h. Il est boulanger, donc Nigel comprend les difficultés liées au travail matinal.
Tous trois profitèrent pleinement de l’espace, déjeunant à la table de pique-nique en haut des marches et s’amusant à jouer au football et autres jeux sur l’herbe en attendant que le poisson morde à l’hameçon. Les frères ne se voient pas très souvent, alors c’était agréable pour eux de passer un peu de temps ensemble et de se raconter leurs vies.
Mardi matin, ils nous ont dit que Leo avait pris trois autres carpes pesant respectivement 16 kg, 17 kg et 17,2 kg, et que Cédric en avait attrapé une à 3 heures du matin.
Quand nous sommes passés les voir mercredi matin, ils nous ont annoncé qu’il y avait eu une double prise la veille : Cédric et Léo en avaient tous deux attrapé un en même temps.
Anthony en avait pris deux, l’un de 9 kg et l’autre de plus de 17 kg. Et Léo a battu son record personnel avec une prise de 19 kg à 4 h 40. Avec déjà plus de 20 poissons dans leur filets, ils passaient assurément une excellente semaine.
Jeudi matin, ils avaient pris deux carpes supplémentaires. Ils ont dit au revoir à Jo, qui partait pour le Royaume-Uni pour une semaine afin de rencontrer sa nouvelle petite-fille. Tous avaient battu leur record personnel. Anthony est reparti jeudi après-midi pour reprendre le travail, et Cedric et Leo vendredi matin après une bonne nuit de sommeil au chalet.
Ils ont terminé la semaine avec un total de 26 carpes. Bien que nous n’ayons pas le poids exact de chacune, nous savons que la plus grosse pesait plus de 19 kg, presque 20 kg, ce qui représente tout de même une excellente prise pour la semaine. Nous avons été ravis de les accueillir et nous les remercions tous pour leur patience face au français approximatif de Jo. Nous espérons les revoir un jour. D’ici là, bonne journée et à bientôt !

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming our first French guests, who came from the northwest of France. Cédric and his son Léo joined us, accompanied by Cédric’s brother, Anthony, who spent a few days with them to reconnect and go fishing.
They arrived Saturday afternoon and spent the first night at the cabin before setting everything up on the main bank of the pond Sunday morning. Leo had already fished in the river near his home and loved catching large catfish and many predatory fish, but he was eager to catch carp. And they didn’t have to wait long to catch their first: a 27lb 8oz mirror carp for Leo. His very first carp, and he was thrilled.
We went to the lake on Sunday afternoon to see them, and Cédric had caught a 24lb 4oz carp. Léo was fishing with a pole to try and catch smaller fish, like roach.
On Monday morning, when we went to see them, they told us they had caught four carp at 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., then two more in half an hour at 10 a.m. Their weights were 12 kg, 5 kg, 9 kg, and 15 kg. Cédric’s brother, Anthony, arrived at 6 p.m. He’s a baker, so Nigel understands the difficulties of working early mornings.
The three of them made the most of the space, having lunch at the picnic table at the top of the steps and enjoying playing football and other games on the grass while waiting for a fish to bite. The brothers don’t see each other very often, so it was nice for them to spend some time together and catch up on their lives.
On Tuesday morning, they told us that Leo had caught three more carp weighing 16 kg, 17 kg and 37lb 15oz respectively, and that Cédric had caught one at 3 a.m.
During our visit Wednesday morning, they told us they had made a double catch the day before: Cédric and Léo had both landed one at the same time.
Anthony had caught two, one weighing 9 kg and the other over 17 kg. And Léo beat his personal record with a 19 kg catch at 4:40 a.m. With more than 20 fish already in their nets, their week was shaping up to be excellent.
On Thursday morning, they had caught two more carp. They said goodbye to Jo, who was leaving for the UK for a week to meet her new granddaughter. Everyone had beaten their personal bests. Anthony left on Thursday afternoon to return to work, and Cedric and Leo left on Friday morning after a good night’s sleep at the cabin.
They finished the week with a total of 26 carp. Although we don’t have the exact weight of each one, we know the largest weighed over 19 kg (41lb 14oz), almost 20 kg, which is still an excellent catch for the week. We were delighted to host them and thank them all for their patience with Jo’s limited French. We hope to see them again someday. Until then, bonne journée et à bientôt…..
