With the weather staying nice and warm for the beginning of November, Nigel decided to have a few nights fishing on Kingfisher, watching the stars and enjoying the morning sunshine. Despite several sessions on the lake since we moved here, he has never fished from the first swim before, preferring either the dam wall or the third swim down.
On the first night he was joined by a friend of ours who caught a previously unknown common weighing 45lb just after it had gone dark.
Nigel followed this the next day with two further commons at 14lb and 36lb
After a few days off, getting some of the jobs done, Nigel returned, taking the firepit with him to keep himself warm under the stars and had another 35lb common closely followed by a 40lb catfish.
He had generally stopped fishing by 10am, coming back to the house for his breakfast and got some pruning jobs done during the day. We still have quite a bit of work to do at the top end of Kingfisher for compliance and we have a lot of pruning and strimming to be done over the winter and after a very wet winter last year we were keen to get as much done as possible whilst the weather was dry. Maisie is on hand, as always, to demand her ball being thrown and if we don’t then she just gets in the stream and amuses herself.
After an early tea, Nigel then gets back off for a nights fishing and he had another good night with a cat weighing 80lb+ (he forgot the digital scales), and a small common at 15lb. This was followed on Wednesday morning by a 46lb 12oz mirror and a 18lb common.
With the weather forecast set to turn colder Nigel knew that Wednesday night would be his last night for a while as the fish will be off feeding when the water temperature drops too low. With 9 fish caught during this session he was hoping to reach double figures and at 9.45pm he landed a 28lb 5oz mirror.
As always when he is fishing he gets everything packed away, leaving his rods out until the last possible moment and this paid off with a lovely 30lb common to finish the session.
So not a bad 6 nights fishing with 11 on the bank in total with zero babies, 3 at 10lb+, 1 at 20lb+, 3 at 30lb+, 2 at 40lb+ and 2 cats to 80lb+
Hopefully we will get some more warm periods before the year is over and he can enjoy some more time relaxing by the firepit. Until then bonne journée and à bientôt….
